Pupil Premium

What is pupil premium?

The Pupil Premium is additional funding to help schools close the attainment gap between children from low-income and other disadvantaged families and their peers.

If a child has been eligible for free school meals (FSM) at any point over the past 6 years or has been continuously looked after for at least 6 months (LAC) the school receives an amount per head within their budget.

Towers Junior School is committed to ensuring maximum progress for all groups of children and strives to close any gaps. Towers Infant School actively promotes equality of opportunity for all staff, governors, pupils and parents, creating a harmonious learning community where all can succeed.

We have a clear, strategic approach to the use of specific Pupil Premium funding and plans are integrated into wider school support and improvement systems. These are monitored and evaluated regularly and in depth data analysis ensures that the correct support and strategies are identified to maximize progress.

Strong leadership systems ensure that Pupil Premium funding has the necessary impact. This includes two identified governors having responsibility for Pupil Premium, the Head Teacher leading the development plan and a coordinated strategic leadership approach to implementing plans. All matters relating to the Pupil Premium are reported back to the Governors, ensuring that the school is held to account for the impact of spending.

How to claim Pupil Premium

Objectives for using the extra funding provided through the pupil premium grant.

Our approach for many years has mirrored that recommended by the Education Endowment Fund (EEF) in that it promotes:

  • Quality first teaching  strategies and best practice
  • Additional time and support to allow all children to achieve and succeed
  • Wider strategies to ensure non-academic factors are promoted to allow all children to participate, achieve and enjoy their education and all that school can offer

Pupil premium planning and impact

Towers Junior school Pupil Premium Statement 2024-2025

What do we expect to see:

Targeting additional support strategies which results in every student, however financially disadvantaged, being able to have full access to our curriculum and all extra- curricular experiences.

All students in the target group who are currently under-performing because the impact of their disadvantaged background will make improved progress leading to diminishing the difference in attainment.

At Towers some of the examples of use of this funding are:

  • Provided extensive and ongoing staff training on the best approaches to raise standards and improve progress
  • Provide individual and group support (academic support, learning support, social or emotional support)
  • funded additional academic and homework support for children eligible for the pupil premium
  • Removed or reduced financial barriers enabling them to fully participate in school life and access wider experiences through funding or heavily subsidising school trips, uniform, clubs, books, instruments, technology for home learning and other resources

Tracking and Intervention

The progress and achievement of all pupils is monitored at key points in the academic year. Any pupil (PP or not) who is in need of intervention is identified and the necessary support is put in place. This is led by the Head of School and SEND Co through regular meetings and discussions. The Deputy Head Teachers regularly analyses data to highlight differentials in performance and impact of interventions.
